Growing tips

🌱Start indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost. Tavor’s short vernalization period means it can be triggered to produce as an annual — expose seedlings to temperatures below 50°F for 2–3 weeks before transplanting to initiate flowering in the first season.

☀️Transplant into full sun with rich, deep, well-drained soil. Space 4–6' apart — artichoke plants are large and architectural, making a stunning statement in the garden while producing abundantly.

💧Water deeply and consistently — artichokes are thirsty plants. Mulch heavily to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Feed with a balanced fertilizer monthly for the best head size and yield.

✂️Harvest when heads are firm and tight, before bracts begin to open. Cut with 1–2" of stem attached. Steam whole until tender and serve with drawn butter, aioli, or a lemon vinaigrette — the buttery, tender hearts are the reward for a season of patience.
