Red Malabar Summer Spinach (Basella alba var. rubra) is an Asian green and a great summer substitute for spinach, with fleshy leaves and stems high in vitamins A and C that are excellent for salads, stir-fries, and thickening summer soups. It grows best with trellising and will re-grow even if severely cut back, and self-sows readily.
