Parris Island Cos, introduced in 1952 and named after Parris Island, South Carolina, has steadily grown in popularity thanks to its resistance to tipburn, tolerance to mosaic, and medium-to-slow bolting habit. It forms 10–12 inch heads of slightly savoyed leaves with a creamy white heart, and a 2020 study identified it as one of the best romaines for keeping quality after leaves are cut.
