Mortgage Lifter Tomato has one of the great origin stories in gardening — developed by amateur plant breeder Radiator Charlie who sold plants for $1 each and paid off his $6,000 mortgage in six years with the proceeds, because the tomatoes were simply that good. The mammoth, 2+ pound fruits have a mild, rich, deeply satisfying flavor with low acidity and almost no seeds, and a single fruit can fill an entire plate with beautiful, meaty slices. A legend of the heirloom tomato world, justly famous.
