Growing tips

🌱Direct sow after last frost when soil reaches 60°F, or start indoors 3–4 weeks early. Pumpkins need a long warm season — in northern climates, starting indoors gives a valuable head start.

☀️Plant in full sun with rich, well-drained soil. Vines spread wide — give them plenty of room or train along a fence. Hill planting (mounding soil) improves drainage and warms the root zone.

💧Water deeply at the base, keeping foliage dry to reduce powdery mildew. Reduce watering as fruit matures to harden the skin and concentrate flavor.

🎃Harvest when the skin is fully blue-grey and the stem begins to dry and cork. Cure in a warm spot for 2 weeks to toughen the skin for long storage — Jarrahdale keeps for months and looks stunning doing it.
