Long Keeper (Solanum lycopersicum) is a semi-determinate variety whose 4 to 7 oz fruits become ripe 6 to 12 weeks after harvest, with some customers reporting storage of 4 to 6 months. Fruits are harvested before frost when they show a pale pink blush, then ripened at room temperature to a satiny red-orange color with medium-red flesh. While quality may not match a fresh garden tomato, the flavor and texture are superior to most winter supermarket tomatoes. It is often grown as a supplement to the main crop, best planted in late spring or early summer for a fall harvest.
