The Seedwell Copper Root Barrier Liner is an optional accessory designed to protect your capillary mat, reduce cleanup, and make the Seedwell Tray System even easier to maintain.

It was originally developed with microgreens and soil blocks in mind, since both can produce dense root systems that may grow directly into the capillary mat and create extra work at harvest and cleanup. But the benefits go well beyond those growing methods.

Any grower can benefit from using the Copper Root Barrier Liner.

The liner sits directly on top of the fully saturated capillary mat and allows moisture to transfer through to the growing media while creating a protective layer between your plants and the mat. This helps keep roots from growing into the capillary mat and also helps keep the mat cleaner by limiting direct exposure to soil, plant debris, and algae.

Over time, that protection can greatly extend the usable life of your capillary mat and reduce the amount of scrubbing, root removal, and deep cleaning needed between crops or at the end of the growing season.

This can make end-of-season cleanup significantly easier. Instead of dealing with a capillary mat full of embedded roots the liner helps keep the mat underneath much cleaner and easier to maintain. 

The Copper Root Barrier Liner is not required for the Seedwell Tray System to work. The Seedwell Tray and capillary mat function normally without it. It is simply an added layer of protection for growers who want to reduce maintenance, protect their capillary mats, and make cleanup easier.

For best performance, use a growing container or tray with a very flat bottom that allows the growing media to make good contact with the liner through the drain holes. Containers with pronounced dimples or a warped bottom may prevent adequate water transfer.

Bootstrap Farmer mesh-bottom trays also work with the Copper Root Barrier Liner, even though they may look like they won’t at first.

The Copper Root Barrier Liner is a simple upgrade that can save time, reduce maintenance, and help protect one of the hardest-working parts of your Seedwell Tray System.
