Velvet Queen Sunflower produces 4–6 inch flowers in a rich palette of gold, brown, cream, orange, muted reds, and violets, including bicolor blooms on well-branched, sturdy, poly-headed plants reaching 6–7 feet tall. Some archaeologists believe Native Americans cultivated sunflowers as early as 3000 B.C. The seed heads can be left in the garden or dried and hung outdoors to feed birds through fall and winter, making it as practical as it is beautiful.
