Growing tips

🌱Start indoors 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors after all danger of frost has passed. Ground cherries love heat and grow similarly to tomatoes.

🌿Stake or cage plants as they grow — indeterminate vines can sprawl 2 to 3 feet wide. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and keep fruits clean as they drop.

💛Harvest when husks turn tan and papery and fruits fall naturally to the ground. Fruits keep for weeks inside their husks at room temperature — no refrigeration needed.

🍽️Eat fresh out of the husk, bake into pies and crumbles, make jam or preserves, or toss into salsas. Their sweet-tart flavor pairs beautifully with vanilla, citrus, and ginger.
