Root Guard Gopher Basket - 15 Gallon
The Root Guard 15-Gallon Gopher Basket is a large formed-wire barrier for protecting the initial root zone of a new fruit tree, ornamental tree, substantial shrub, or other planting with a sizeable root ball. It creates a physical obstruction between burrowing gophers and the crown or primary roots without releasing a pesticide. Mesh openings preserve drainage and allow roots to expand beyond the enclosed area as the plant establishes.
Measure the root ball and prepare a hole broad enough for the basket to open at its intended diameter without pinching or collapsing. Place backfill inside the base to achieve the correct planting depth, then set the plant so the root flare or crown remains at finished grade. Add soil incrementally inside and outside the basket, firming lightly to support the mesh while preserving soil structure. Position the upper edge according to the product directions so gophers cannot readily enter from the surface. Water thoroughly after installation and adjust irrigation for the new planting. Inspect for exposed wire, soil settlement, or tunneling near the perimeter during establishment.
